About The Founder

Balaji Santhanam

Music is my passion. I have been teaching people to identify rAgams and appreciate Carnatic Music nuances for many years. The Joy of Music classes are my way of sharing the immense happiness that music has given me in my life. I used to be a Software Engineer by profession. I quit my software career to teach Carnatic Music Appreciation full-time.

I currently learn Veena from Sreevidhya Chandramouli and Chandramouli Narayanan of the Karaikudi Veena tradition. Earlier, I learnt Mridangam from my grandfather Sangeetha Bhooshanam M.V.Chandrachudan and later from Madurai K.Rangarajan for a good part of my school years. I briefly learnt flute from K.Ramnath of Boston for a couple of years. After that, I learnt Carnatic vocal from Shyamala Narasimhan in Richmond, VA and then Immaneni Ashok in Seattle, WA, who introduced me to my Veena teachers.
